[pear.php.net](http://pear.php.net) is down [as of January 21, 2019](https://web.archive.org/web/20190121023939/http://pear.php.net/). The server provides go-pear.phar, which is critical to our [PHP archive generation builds](https://travis-ci.org/travis-ci/php-src-builder/builds). As a result, no new PHP archives will be provided until the service is restored.

I will look into changing the process to use GitHub-released `go-pear.phar` if it’s not back up in a few more days.

I tried building `go-pear.phar` from source following the instructions in

However, it appears to fail on `php-src`'s `master` branch for a couple of reasons:
1. While the compilation of the PHP source appears to succeed, it does not appear to [have `php-config`](https://travis-ci.org/travis-ci/php-src-builder/jobs/487168073#L2855), which is invoked by `phpenv`.
2. The `release` process outlined in the document seems to assume that some version of `pear` is available. Bootstrapping `pear` seems impossible. [https://travis-ci.org/travis-ci/php-src-builder/jobs/487168073#L2876](https://travis-ci.org/travis-ci/php-src-builder/jobs/487168073#L2876)
Unless someone else can suggest a way around these issues, waiting appears to be the best option now.

It should not be necessary to manually build the go-pear.phar. Pre-built PEAR phars are available in a separate GitHub repo: [https://github.com/pear/pearweb\_phars](https://github.com/pear/pearweb_phars)

The `master`/`nightly` needs work, including [https://github.com/pear/Console\_Getopt/pull/3](https://github.com/pear/Console_Getopt/pull/3). Maybe more, but we don’t know that yet.
